My first thought is that, online, there really is no differentiation between an online or offline product... but you then go on to mention a tanning salon. So the first idea is that what we're talking about are the use of websites in positioning local services/businesses, not products. Honestly, for local businesses, I think the existence of a website is secondary to establishing your online reputation. And local search/reputation management is very effective for promoting local businesses (if all else) because there's so little competition for most markets at this point in time.

Hey Good post! Just curious, how efficient is website positioning in terms of promoting an offline product or service. I see pages on a regular basis that promote an internet primarily based product (ebook, amazon.com and so forth), but if I need to promote say a tanning salon - is the online an effective method to do that? Are you aware of any examples of this? Anyway, thanks in advance for any help. :)

Articles also play some part in internet marketing. As articles are read by visitors there are more chances for visitors coming to the sites. Articles should be relevant to the theme of the site

Is there any special techniques that can be used to optimize a wordpress blog on my server for SEO. One issue I see is no way to change the title tags on each page, where it seems to take the blog name for the home page.
I have several hundred 600+ inbound links.
I have pinged Technorati manually and used pingoat as well as pingomatic every time I add a new blog.
There is plenty of content, about 30 articles.
What else can I do? What else should I do to optimize my blog?
