Quite the opposite actually. Without a guarantee for SEO, the average consumer has a 99.99% percent chance of being ripped off. Those SEO's who play the Google card have used that tired old axiom to separate naive website owners from their money for years.

Oh sure -- the SEO cannot warrant that search engines will respond favorably to what they do, however, UNLESS the search engines position the client's site according to specs, the client shouldn't have to pay for incompetency.

Just make sure the SEO uses benchmarks for your most competitive keywords and guarantees at least 5 or so of them on Google's first page of results. Another important consideration is to hire an SEO who works in your industry niche.

Even if results never come about the firm still pockets the initial payment, which might be all they are after in the first place.

Sure they might be able to pull down the low hanging fruit and score quickly with phrases where there is little competition. But their claim is impossible to guarantee. They thrive on the fact that most customers when given a warranty or guarantee rarely take advantage of it.

yeah, that sure is a slippery slope. some key word phrases are soo competive that its almost impossible to rank well, so its definitely something that has to be taken on a case-by-case basis.

and there are other aspects involved with converting those rankings into sales conversions

a horrible site at the top of the listins is not going to convert well, usability and other issues must be addressed also
