Guess what: bit.ly (a service that shortens and tracks links on Twitter) has released new information about when links are most often shared on Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr. What great news for all you attorneys interested in learning more about when you should be tweeting links to your website or blog!
According to bit.ly’s blog post, sharing times for links varies based on which platform is used. This makes sense because, even when the user base overlaps, each network serves its own purpose in the social media realm. Knowing when to post on Facebook was a blog topic here on CaseDetails.com a few weeks ago, so we’ll focus on Twitter in this post.
Say you’re a Bellevue business lawyer with a new blog post you want to share with your followers. For your best chance of reaching a wide audience and achieving a high click-through-rate (CTR) on Twitter, you should be posting from 1 to 3 p.m. EDT on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Links posted on Fridays after 3 p.m. and anytime over the weekend don’t reach as wide an audience because people aren’t clicking on links on Twitter during this time period—they’re out in the real world enjoying their weekends.
Bitly also pointed out that traffic for links drops after 8 p.m. EDT every day of the week, so keep that in mind. You may be burning the midnight oil at the office, but your client is far more likely to be out socializing in the evening or at home enjoying some prime time TV.
While Bitly’s blog didn’t include any information about LinkedIn, a future post on Social Media Mondays will address this topic if any data becomes available.
Social Media Mondays is a CaseDetails.com series covering different topics in the social media world on a weekly basis. Check back every Monday for more news on social media and useful information on how law firms can use social platforms to their advantage.
