Avoid these SEO spending shortcuts to protect your online rankings.

Just like any other type of business, law firms want to save money on SEO marketing. While this is understandable, it’s important to know that cutting corners can get your firm into trouble and hurt your SEO campaign. The following problems that can all occur from hiring an inexperienced or low-quality SEO service.

In many cases, you will get poor content that no one wants to read and that gets penalized by Google because it offers little to no value. Ever since Google’s Panda update in 2011, websites with poorly written, duplicated, generic or unusable content have been targeted, and their rankings have dramatically declined. Consequently, hiring an amateur who creates low-value content can hurt your rankings as well as your firm’s reputation.

Another common problem is an ineffective back linking campaign. Many businesses fall for the hype and get conned into thinking that buying a bunch of cheap links or quickly building low value links will help boost their rankings. This couldn’t be further from the truth and can quickly get you penalized. In fact, Google’s Penguin update in April of this year essentially waged war on link spam. The truth is that it takes time and effort to engage in an effective back linking campaign and trying to rush it can greatly hurt your rankings. For this reason, Chicago commercial litigation attorneys would be better off paying a bit more over a stretch of time for quality back links than paying a spammer for a high volume of links overnight.

In addition, a poorly designed website that’s not properly optimized for search engines can be detrimental. Hiring an amateur to create your site can result in an unprofessional looking website, low conversion rates, low rankings and a bad reputation. All of this can hinder your firm’s ability to establish a long-term online presence.
